"It would seem that you have no useful skill or talent whatsoever," he said. "Have you thought of going into teaching?"
Tourist, Rincewind decided, meant "idiot".
On nights such as these the gods, as has already been pointed out, play games other than chess with the fates of mortals and the thrones of kings. It is important to remember that they always cheat, right up to the end...

Don't we all? at one time or another?
So far I'm still getting rubbed the right way...
:-) Yup Jean.... that is very, very true.
Sparrow... you made me smile, and for that I offer thanks.
See.... :-)
You meet, from time to time, people that you instinctively don't like for no apparent reason. Case in point. A friend or ours, a widow of two years, was seeing a man who had a teen-aged daughter. The widow has a number of children all married and a number or grandkids.
This man reportedly worked for the state in a minor administrative capacity. However, as details emerged, some inconsistencies appeared. For instance, he seemed to have a high number of days off---during the work week. His clothes and that of his daughter were all worn and shabby. State office workers have a dress code, basically no jeans or shorts, but this man didn't have any. The frequently accompanied her father on visits to the widow even during school days. The man and daughter lived in Jefferson City, around 120 mines away and would visit early and stay late.
Each unto itself was innocuous, but taken all together troubling. I met the man and girl several times. He would not look me in the eye and would not maintain a conversation. The girl seldom spoke and seemed cowed, but that could be a bias on my part since I didn't like the man at first sight. In addition, all her kids did not like this guy and were highly suspicious. One the plus side, as far as we know, he never asked for money or other "considerations."
After a year of this, the widow broke things off and has now remarried. Her new husband is well liked by all the widow's kids and I did as well when I met him. He was open and well conversed. He has a number of grown children and grandkids and they all get along well with their father.
Two men, two distinctly different perceptions.
